The key to this is a number of new themes that are really designed for the touch interface. You can start with one of these themes and create a new database, or take an existing database and apply the new theme. (In practice, I found it often took a bit of modification to make everything look quite right on screen, but wasn't difficult.) In total, the product has 40 themes, and 16 starter solutions designed to help a new business customer. What stands out to me, though, is how much better it works for taking your database with you on an iPhone or iPad. The previous version started this trend, but the new version just works better.

However, FileMaker has switched to an annual release schedule which does in fact cause us to have new versions a bit faster than we ever have in the past.
